Black-Necked Crane Festival

The annual black necked crane festival in Bhutan 2024 will be celebrated on the 11th november at the Gangtey monastery. The festival is an occasion for the locals to rejoice and celebrate the arrival of the endangered black necked cranes. These majestic birds are an inseparable part in their daily lives during the winter months.

This festival is organized to create awareness on the importance of conserving these rare and endangered cranes. Some of the dances performed during this festival are with black-necked crane themes. The school children perform dramas and sing songs with environmental conservation themes. The festival also includes folk songs, traditional dances and mask dances performed by the local people.
